“Rota do Barroco” is the latest video in the Lisbon Stories series, an initiative by the Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL) for the external promotion of the destination in the markets of Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Brazil. The video invites you to explore the cultural and heritage richness of Lisbon, through the Baroque style museums and monuments.

For around five minutes, an itinerary is presented through emblematic places such as the Baroque Museum, the Correio-Mor Palace, the Fronteira Palace, the Marquês de Pombal Palace, the Ludovice Palace, the Águas Livres Aqueduct, the Palácio National Museum of Mafra, Quinta Real de Caxias, the National Palace of Belém, the National Coach Museum and the Royal Treasury Museum. Mention is also made of the numerous churches and chapels that were remodeled and redecorated in the Baroque style, during the reign of D. João V.

Paula Oliveira, executive director of ATL, states that “the decorative richness and architectural complexity of the Baroque style reflect a time of prosperity that marked Lisbon's cultural identity. Present in museums, monuments and churches, the Baroque left a strong historical legacy that now invites everyone to visit.”

The Baroque style had its splendor in Lisbon during the reign of D. João V, in the first half of the 16th century. XVIII. Although many of the buildings from this period were destroyed in the 1755 earthquake, several examples of Lisbon's “Golden Age” have survived to this day.
