Based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the captaincy indicates that the wind will blow from the east/southeast “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong in the morning, becoming moderate to fresh from the late afternoon”.

The swell on the north coast of Madeira is expected to reach 2.5 metres, while on the south coast it should not exceed two metres.

The Funchal Port Authority recommends reinforcing the mooring and surveillance of moored and anchored vessels, and avoiding trips to the seaside “or in areas exposed to maritime agitation”, such as harbour protection jetties, cliffs or beaches.

“Do not practice recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and cliff areas frequently affected by breaking waves”, is another recommendation.
