In an effort to draw "both national and international" corporate investment to this municipality in the Beja district, the Mértola Council will proceed with the establishment of a new Business and Logistics Area (AEL) in the town. Mario Tomé, the president of Mértola emphasised that the establishment of a new AEL in the municipality is an important strategic move for its social and economic growth.

A roughly seven-hectare plot of municipal land in the southern part of Mértola, close to the municipal kennel, will be home to the new infrastructure, Mario Tomé shared. As he explained, “The existence of a business zone equipped with modern infrastructure and easy access could attract companies from different sectors, contributing to the economic development of the municipality and even the region”.

The project anticipates 45 modular lots in total, ready for as many potential commercial operations as possible. By broadening the services offered and boosting the local economy’s resilience, the new AEL in Mértola is intended to become a place “of interest to be in, making it less vulnerable to sectoral crisis”.

He continued by saying that the future infrastructure project anticipates the construction of a fuel station and charging stations, a business incubator, a unit for lodging, a unit for commerce and services, and an area meant for a medium-sized commercial area.
