Sunsets are unquestionably one thing that never gets old. We are fortunate to have a vast west coast where we may enjoy a beautiful spectacle of colours every evening as the sun sets. As we enjoy the cooler months of the year, it’s good to have a few alternative spots to enjoy winter mornings and afternoons, and if you are curious to know where one of those unique spots may be, do continue reading.

Laying in a surfers’ paradise destination, where people from all over the world come to surf even during the winter months, you can find a hidden gem, a sunset lover’s heaven, which has so far been a well-kept secret. About halfway along the steep road to Arrifana Beach, you will notice a little trail on your right that passes through a few fishermen’s homes that are now used as lodgings for visitors.

Soon you’ll see a wooden construction, just at the cliff’s slope, which means you have reached ‘Ti Raul’. There will be a beach sign at the bar’s entrance listing the many beaches in the area known for being good surfing spots along with the coordinates of the beaches, with Arrifana placed on top. There are not that many places offering views and vibes like ‘Ti Raul’ does. The name of the bar which in Portuguese stands for ‘Uncle Raul’ honours the oldest seafood farmer still active in the municipality of Aljezur.

Just enough people can fit in the exterior wooden bar without making you feel crowded, as it provides a balanced mix of peacefulness and a sociable environment. Choosing where to sit, rather than choosing what to nibble on is probably the most difficult decision you will have to make when you get to this idyllic location. The tall seats with a bar-type long wooden table overlooking the ocean are a great spot if you’re in the mood for some snacks. There are also comfortable lower beach chairs that offer a nice spot to relax and sip cocktails, and even a loft net, giving Bali vibes, which is a bonus and a great setting to hang out with friends.

The atmosphere at ‘Ti Raul’ is unmatchable - enjoying a drink in pleasant company while taking in the scenery and watching surfers catching some waves is a genuinely one-of-a-kind experience. Of course, food is equally essential. If I were you, I would try the banana bread and the guacamole nachos; you won’t regret it. A complex list of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, such as delicious cocktails and smoothies, is also available.

Moreover, ‘Ti Raul’ is also a popular spot for surfers to relax before or after surfing, as they provide surf rentals for those who may need it. Most likely you’ll feel so attached to this magical place that you won’t want to leave without acquiring a ‘Ti Raul’s’ sweater, a bucket hat, or any of the many other options available. ‘Ti Raul’ is definitely the place to spend some quality time in connection with nature, sinking in a view that will stay with you forever.
