Over one foot in length, and weighing almost two pounds, the “Darth Vader of the Deep Seas” (Bathynomus vaderi) was named by Peter Ng, a crustacean researcher at the University of Singapore.


These species of isopod live in the depths of the ocean around the Spratley Islands and are known in Vietnam as "sea bugs" where they're eaten as a delicacy.
