The Lisbon Metropolitan Area is expected to receive at least 82 more hotel units in the coming years, 15 of which are expected to start operating in 2025. According to Público, 54 new hotels are expected to open in the capital alone, which will represent a 16% increase.

But it is in Porto that the increase will be even more significant. At the moment, 122 processes relating to new hotels are underway, which represents a growth of 64.2% in relation to the current 190 hotels, according to data from the most recent Statistical Bulletin on Licensing of Tourist Enterprises from the Porto City Council (CMP). Of this total, 63 are already under construction.

While in Lisbon the projects that are in the pipeline should represent an increase of, for now, around five thousand new rooms — adding those indicated for the rest of the capital's metropolitan region, it will translate into an increase of almost eight thousand rooms to the existing supply in the region, the number of new rooms in Porto will be 6,268, leaving the city with 34,509 available beds.
