According to meteorologist Maria João Frada: “For today and tomorrow [Saturday] periods of rain or showers are forecast, being less frequent in the north and more intense in the south, and snowfall above 1,400/1,600 meters”.

“One of the possible scenarios indicates that Monday and Tuesday will be days of a lot of cloudiness, rain and even snow. We have a Carnival that is not exactly good for parades. Temperatures will also drop starting tomorrow,” she said.

Maximum temperatures will vary between 14 and 17 degrees Celsius, being slightly lower in the Northeast Transmontano and Beira Alta between 07 and 11 degrees.

Regarding the minimums, they will vary between 07 and 10 degrees, being in the Northeast Transmontano and in Beira Alta in the order of 01, 02, 03 degrees and lower in Serra da Estrela.

“It’s not a great time for Carnival, but that’s what the models tell us,” she said.

Regarding the Madeira archipelago, Maria João Frada indicated that there will be showers on the northern slopes and highlands, which will be covered in snow at the highest points.

“Wind gusts of 70 to 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) are also forecast, with up to 85 in high areas,” he said.

The minimum temperature should vary between 09 and 15 degrees, being between -1 and 04 degrees in the highlands, and the maximum should vary between 15 and 20 degrees, being between 05 and 10 degrees in the highlands.

A cold frontal surface is expected to pass through the Azores archipelago today, which will affect the weather on all the islands, causing rain, generally light.

Winds from the west quadrant are also forecast, moderate to fresh with gusts of up to 60 km/h, turning to the east quadrant.

Minimum temperatures should vary between 11 degrees and 12 degrees and maximum temperatures should vary between 16 degrees and 17 degrees.
