According to information provided by Civil Protection, these incidents were caused by strong winds and, in their resolution, 24 elements and 10 land resources were involved.

The majority were structural damage (four), with two warning signs and one collapse also recorded.

The landslide occurred on a section of Regional Highway 107, between Curral das Freiras and Sítio Colmeal, and did not cause any injuries.

According to the regional Civil Protection, access to the coastline in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, a pedestrian area on the Ribeira Brava waterfront in Calheta and the Cais da Ponta da Oliveira, in the municipality of Santa Cruz, are closed. Access to the Porto Santo pier was also closed.

There are other roads in the high areas of Madeira whose access has also been restricted.

The Funchal captaincy today extended the warnings of poor visibility and rough seas and strong winds until 6:00 am on Friday.

The warnings, which are based on information from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), say that the wind will blow from the west and will be “at times very strong (62-74km/h) during the afternoon”.

The swell will be from the northwest, reaching up to 5.5 meters on the north coast, while waves of up to 4.5 meters are expected on the southern part of the island.

The regional authority reinforces the warnings to the maritime community and the general population, recommending that vessels be reinforced and moored and that walks along the seafront be avoided, as well as recreational fishing.

Porto Santo Line, the company responsible for the ship Lobo Marinho, which provides maritime transport between Madeira and Porto Santo, has cancelled the trips scheduled for today due to bad weather.

The IPMA has placed the Madeira archipelago under a yellow warning due to strong winds and rough seas.
