This public entity informs, in a statement, that weather forecasts point to a long weekend with “good weather and high temperatures”, recommending “safety behaviour when going to the beach or coastal areas, avoiding unnecessary exposure to risk”.

AMN warns that it is important to keep in mind that “the sea is still a winter sea and presents a high risk due to the effects of sea agitation”.

“It is important to note that most Portuguese beaches are not supervised at this time of year, that is, they do not have bathing safety devices, and the response to a rescue situation may take a long time”, highlights AMN.

The maritime authority then gives a series of recommendations, such as permanently supervising children and not allowing them to stray, always keeping them close to an adult or avoiding risky behaviour, not turning their backs on the sea and always keeping a safe distance from the waterline, to avoid being surprised by a wave.

This entity also asks that beach signage and instructions from lifeguards, law enforcement officers and those who reinforce surveillance on the beaches be respected and, if a dangerous situation is witnessed in the water, “do not enter and ask for help by calling 112”.
