Professor Ranjeny Thomas at the University of Queensland has spent over 25 years developing the ASITI-201, which restrains the immune system so it no longer attacks the insulin-producing pancreatic cells.


The treatment is administered as an injection under the skin, combining fragments of a protein found in the beta cells of people with type 1 diabetes and vitamin D to manage the immune response.
