Diesel, the most used fuel in Portugal, should fall by four cents starting on Monday, and petrol by four cents, a market source told ECO. You have to go back to April 14 to see a bigger drop, but that still won't cancel out this week's rise in diesel prices.

Therefore, when you go to fill up, you should pay €1.562 per litre of regular diesel and €1.685 per litre of regular 95 petrol, taking into account the average prices charged at the pumps on Monday, as published by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG).

Despite the increases, and if these values are confirmed, since the beginning of the year, diesel prices have fallen by 7.1 cents and gasoline by 6.1 cents.

The values may still change to take into account the closing of Brent oil prices this Friday and the behavior of the exchange market. But also because the final prices result from the average of the prices charged by all gas stations. In addition, the prices charged to the end consumer may vary according to the station.

This week, diesel went up by 6.7 cents and gasoline by 2.2 cents, increases lower than market expectations, which pointed to an appreciation of eight and three cents, respectively.
