However, after a visit with colleague and friend Anita, they both realised that a wish indeed had come true. Not only their wish, but that of Sid Richardson Animal Rescue Algarve’s CIC. “Indeed, how could we have planned it! Must have been something in the planets!”

João Ferreira ARA’s General Manager and Élia, head of the reception area, get to see a lot of ‘comings and goings’. Luckily, the outgoings outweigh the incoming animal register. “Unfortunately, their care and costs here at ARA need to be covered.” Indeed, the team at ARA attends local shows, school days and events to raise extra money and food. So impressed with ARA, they both signed up to the ‘Legacy Pet Plan’.

Anita has just been appointed Ambassador for the ARA ‘Legacy Pet Plan’ its introduction to the Algarve and making appointments to visit organisations, businesses and individuals who want to know more. “Our wish was that we could ensure all pets futures were thought of well in advance!” Anita grins. “It is a conundrum that people don’t want to come to terms with their own future, let alone that of their furry friends!”

One couple recently approached Anita whilst wearing her Ambassador hat, and said. “We are too old now. If we take on a pet, what will happen?” ARA’s shelter ‘Cabanita’ is never short of the perfect pet for you. All shapes, breeds and sizes and ages. “Most importantly, why not visit ARA, meet up with an older furry pal that suits you and sign up for ‘Legacy’ at the same time.” Ensuring the friendly friend’s future is signed, sealed and delivered, and giving it a wonderful home, no matter for how long, but importantly, loved and cared for.


The purpose-built shelter ‘Cabanita’ is a dream world for abandoned animals, but it is not the same as a proper home. “Animals are our lives, and when we become ill or unable to care for them, then we must be responsible and look to their safety and comfort long after we’re gone.“ Anita is willing to meet with you and discuss your own personal requirements, whether you have pets and are looking for their future. Or, wanting to have a pet but think there are too many problems to overcome. “Many people are lonely without a pal, there are many solutions to suit all of us. A ‘gift’ now could ensure not only your happiness but peace of mind. Got it.
