In comparison to the same month last year, this portrays a 3.8 percent year-on-year decrease, while on a month-to-month basis, the decline was 2.5 percent, or 7,417 fewer people registered in May.

The IEFP report also revealed that registered job seekers now represent 66.1 percent of all employment requests, which totalled 443,860 by the end of June across mainland Portugal and the autonomous regions.

This decline translates to 11,458 fewer unemployed people than in June 2024, and is the lowest recorded figure in nearly two years, as the last time it was lower was July 2023, when 284,330 people were registered.

These figures were mainly driven by those who had been registered for less than 12 months (down by 11,812), individuals seeking new employment (9,916), and job seekers over the age of 25 (8,345).

June marks the fifth consecutive monthly decrease in unemployment, continuing a downward trend that began in February.
