“Most of the 30 or more cats have been re-homed, and we have to thank all of the people who took one of her ‘specials’, cats who would otherwise not find a home.” The re-homing of the cats needs another boost.

The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve has ‘Facebook’ entries, and their editor, Lisa, has been busy with all sorts of re-homing projects, nearly always of the feline variety. Jenny says. “Despite saying “no more”, I too fall into the hole of collecting yet another unfortunate who needs a home. But hey have to fit in with the current animal clan. This is a problem a lot of new feline-friendly humans find to their cost. The new furry friend has to fit in with the existing animals’ pecking order. Sometimes they all get on, and others need a little segregation time. Cats still waiting for a home? All 6 yrs.old ‘Marble & ‘Pedro’ male. ‘Jet’ female. They are still all listed on Facebook. Also check out a little ‘Gerald’, only 10 months old, looking for a forever home. Currently with Monica.

Anita, the ‘Legacy’ Ambassador, has just lost her ‘Dixie’, an old-timer, who was abandoned and given a long-loving-forever-home. “Dixie was a favourite,” Anita explains. “Despite all the problems, Dixie soldiered on. Finally collapsed over the weekend. The Portimão Veterinary Hospital did all they could, but she had long-term illnesses that finally caught up. Seems one minute they are with us, and then gone.” Jenny nods in agreement. “It’s the memories of their coming to you, how you fight for their survival, the love they give in return.” Our commiserations.
