According to Commander Elísio Pereira of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), at around 9:15 a.m., the five fires with the most resources mobilised were located in the districts of Viseu, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, and Castelo Branco and involved 1,612 firefighters and 509 ground resources.

"Reinforced aerial resources are being deployed, and some may take a little longer to reach the site due to safety concerns and poor visibility due to smoke. All these fires are being reinforced with national aerial resources, taking into account the terrain characteristics," the same source told Lusa news agency.

Regarding the possibility of homes being at risk, the same commander stated that "the situation is calmer" in the village of Fornos de Carvão, in Arouca, Aveiro district, which was evacuated overnight.

"As soon as conditions allow, people will return to their homes," he said.

According to information on the official ANEPC website, accessed at 9:30 a.m., the fire in Arouca is being fought by 578 firefighters, 180 ground resources, and two air resources.

The Civil Protection source was unable to confirm whether the fire in Arouca, Aveiro district, has already spread to the municipality of Castelo de Paiva.

In Penamacor, Castelo Branco, 384 people are fighting the flames on the ground, supported by 134 vehicles, six of which are aerial.

In the Viana do Castelo district, in Ponte da Barca, the fire has been raging since Saturday, and 388 firefighters and 126 vehicles are fighting the fire, while in Ponte de Lima, 92 firefighters and 26 vehicles are fighting the fire.

In Mangualde, Viseu, 173 firefighters are fighting the fire, with 45 ground vehicles and two aerial vehicles.
