The Portuguese Association of Pyrotechnics and Explosives Manufacturers (APIPE) estimates that companies in the sector lost approximately €2 million in five days due to the ban on fireworks displays under the state of alert decreed by the government since Sunday and extending until Thursday.
APIPE criticizes the government's measure for involving a "blind ban" on the use of fireworks throughout the country, even when events take place on water and in risk-free locations, according to a report by Jornal de Notícias.
"All measures are welcome to protect the forest, but they are intended to protect it, not the ocean waters, reservoirs, rivers, and city centres. This is our outrage, but obviously we are here and we accept the unfair decisions of those in power," says Carlos Macedo, president of the association. He estimates that on Sunday alone, "dozens of shows were cancelled, and by Thursday there will be more than a hundred."
There is no such “risk free” firework or for that matter risk free area. These are incendiary devices. It’s just about the money.

I have never understood the mentality of the village festa organisers.
Why the hell would you be setting off fireworks in the middle of summer in a high fire risk area.
Have a laser light show instead .
