Driving through Monchique is an experience in itself, being surrounded by stunning nature. Even though it’s only a few kilometres from the Algarve, it feels like a completely different world, with its hills and lush greenery.

Many locals from the Algarve have a habit of driving up to Monchique on Sundays to enjoy lunch at local restaurants. It’s easy to see why.

We decided to go for a walk on one of the trails, and along the way, we came across an absolutely amazing picnic spot in Alferce, right by the road. We pulled over, parked the car, and decided to have lunch there.

We had everything ready, so we set it up on one of the wooden tables with benches and just sat back, taking in the views over the Monchique valley.
