According to the SRPCBA, which cites the Azores Seismovolcanic Surveillance and Information Center (CIVISA), the event was registered at 08:18 local time (one hour less than on the mainland) and had an epicenter 32 kilometers west / northwest of the parish of Capelo, in the municipality of Horta.
The earthquake was felt with maximum intensity IV on the Modified Mercalli scale (ranging from I to XII, increasing according to the degree of intensity) in Capelo and Castelo Branco, and with intensity III in the parishes of Praia do Norte, Cedros and Feteira.
Last week, the island of Faial felt earthquakes with magnitudes, of 3.4 (Thursday), 3.9 (Wednesday) and 4.4 (Tuesday).
On Sunday night two other earthquakes were also felt on the island, of magnitude 3.5 and 3.6 on the same scale.
Last week, the president of CIVISA told Lusa that Faial was registering a slight increase in seismic activity, with all events having an epicenter at sea.
“It is one of the many seismogenic zones of the archipelago and since November 3 (Sunday), around 16:00, there has been a slight increase in seismic activity in this seismogenic zone, located west of Faial, with a distance between 25 and 35 kilometres of the island ”, explained Rui Marques.
