Portugal’s premier cycle race will commence in Albufeira, a day after Valentine’s Day, and will end in Malhão on
19 February.
The 43rd Volta will maintain its structure of recent years, the Federation said, with the first stage seeing riders travel from Albufeira to Lagos.
The second stage will take place between Lagoa and Monchique, before a time-trial takes place in Sagres.
The penultimate stage will connect Almodôvar and Tavira, with the winner being crowned in Malhão after starting the final stage in Loulé.
The race has also been raised by the International Cycling Union (Union Cycliste Internationale) to a higher class, the 2.HC. (2 Hors Classe) This means it is now Portugal’s most elite cycle tour, even higher placed than the Volta a Portugal making it the country’s top cycling event.
