Among the reasons listed by the publication, that Portugal’s Algarve qualifies not only as a top lifestyle option in Europe, but as the world’s best place to live or retire, include the usual arguments of great weather, great beaches and golf.
But it also mentions safety, international standard healthcare, affordable cost of living and healthy living as more reasons to live in the region.

I study medicine on the university in Holland. For me is the standard healthcare here in Portugal very very bad. Also the cost of living is very high. On the moment the tax is much higher than the most E.U. country´s. The salary here is very low. People here have to struggle for live. Of course the weather is nice, the air pure. So there are not 11 reasons that the Algarve is the best place to retire people.

Of course, there are many opinions on whether any place is a good one or a bad one in which to retire. The fact remains, however, that many people think Algarve is great.
In any event, if you're seriously considering joining the many who have chosen Algarve as a place to retire, you should consider the opinions of expats who already live there. Here's a place with answers about what it's like to retire to Algarve: https://bestplacesintheworldtoretire.com/questions-and-answers/algarve

You think Portugal is expensive...try living in London or Paris. Give me a break, having been to Portugal several times in the past few years, I've come to realize that it's the only affordable place to live in Europe...and Yes, I've traveled to many other places in Europe. And the portuguese healthcare??? Seriously, it's one of the best and cheapest to afford. Don't like it there?--Leave. More space for the rest of us who love and appreciate not just the Algarve, but Portugal altogether.
