In a statement, ACAP said that in the first ten months of the year, 179,443 cars were sold, up 26.7% on the same period of 2014.


However, the association noted, the volume of sales reported in October remains 7.8% below the average of the same month in past 15 years.


Sales of light passenger vehicles in October were up 16.1% on the year, at 13,696. After the ongoing scandal about having its cars trick emissions tests, sales of Volkswagen in the month were up 1% on the year, making it the fifth biggest selling brand.


Sales of light commercial vehicles were up 15.4% at 2,779 while those of heavy goods vehicles were up 19.8% on the year, at 447.
