The Soul in the Algarve event is brought to Alvor by organiser Vivy Brown, who for the past 11 years has been hosting annual trips to the Algarve.
Brown, who runs the Soul Network which also organises monthly parties in London for the over-30s, settled on Alvor “because it’s lovely. It’s just a lovely little fishing village. A really nice place to be.”
The yearly excursion now sees several hundred participants signing up to make the trip to southern Portugal for a week of fun and celebrations in the sun.
While in the Algarve the group will enjoy leisurely days at for example visiting NoSolo Água pool in Portimão and attending catamaran & cliff-top parties, but the highlight will undoubtedly be when its 700+ members take to the streets of Alvor to perform a colourful, carnival-like parade.
“We’ve been bringing people to the Algarve for the past 11 years but we wanted to do a street party so we got permission from the Mayor [of Alvor] and last year it was a huge success”, Vivy Brown tells The Portugal News, adding: “We make sure we use all the local bars and restaurants and all the reservations are made before we set off.”
The Soul in the Algarve group will be in Alvor from 5 to 12 May, with ‘Carnival Day’ taking place on Sunday 8 May, starting around 4pm.
“It’s our first community-type event and we’d love it if more locals joined in. Anyone can join in”, Vivy says, adding: “Just wear bright colours.
“Last year it was an amazing success, not only the 700 from the UK were there but lots of Portuguese and expats turned out to watch and participate. It will be even bigger and better this year and has caused a lot of excitement in both the UK and Portugal” Vivy stresses, saying she believes “this will turn into an annual event that will be on everyone’s calendar!”
