In an update on the damage covered by insurance policies, the APS pointed out that there was a duplication in comparison with the previous calculation of 31 December 2019, in which there had been 10,000 claims and an aggregate amount of damages of €18 million.
The €34 million of Wednesday’s update included the aggregate value of damage, i.e. amounts paid and provisioned, following the bad weather that caused three deaths, leaving 144 people homeless and another 352 displaced as a precaution, mainly in the Centre area, with the flooding caused by the Mondego River.
The bad weather caused by storm Elsa, between 18 and 20 December, which was joined on 21 by the Fabien depression, caused damage to homes, train lines, highways and the electrical network, affecting the distribution of energy to thousands of people, especially in the Central region.
