A new debate regarding what should be done on the road was held on Wednesday, in which a number alterations and improvements to the original project were put forward following a public debate.
According to a proposal undersigned by Municipal Works Councillor Manuel Salgado, among the main alterations is “a change to the type of tree to be planted along the central divider near the airport”, opting for ash trees instead of the European nettle tree.
The Ash is a medium-size tree that can reach 25 metres in height, while the European nettle can grow to over 30 metres in height.
Other adjustments include the widening of the central divider itself, the application of a ‘vehicle restraint system’, the introduction of security barriers to reduce the risk of overtopping and of ‘collision with the trees’, and the creation of “transition zones of a desirable extension” on the access roads to the A1 (North Freeway) and IC19 (Complementary Itinerary) to the Segunda Circular.

The Lisbon residents do not agree with the roadworks not only because of the costs (which will be translated into new or increased taxes) but also because they do not believe the changes will have any positive impact ( on the contrary). But the council members are adamant and stubbornly refuse to change their mind . That is the state of our democracy and thst is why Portugal finances are, and will continue to be, in trouble.
