Massive waves strike the Azores

The Portuguese Met Office said that huge waves of up to 13 metres had destroyed various infrastructures in Madalena, on the Island of Pico, in the Azores, which it said were “unforeseen” and “uncommon”.

Local authorities told Lusa News Agency that the heavy seas have forced the part of Madalena to be closed down.

The mayor of Madelena, José António Soares, said the waves had destroyed an exhibition of squid by Malcolm Clarke and the ground floor of the Cella Bar, which was recently elected the world’s best bar.

I have a land to visit Pico Island in September 2017. I love these Islands. So far I have visited 4 0f the Azore Islands. beautiful Islands. Love the people and the beauty of these Islands.
