The latest advisory issued by the Portuguese Met Office comes after a major fire broke out in neighbouring Portimão on Monday afternoon, but which was brought under control later that evening.

A further six other locations in the country have also been placed on maximum alert due to the prevailing weather conditions, with firefighters in Santarém, Castelo Branco and Guarda all on the highest level of alert for the next 12 hours.
