As part of the “Focus” operation, the police aim to “increase the sense of security of the people and to warn of the dangers related to the misuse of these products”.
Between 2015 and 2018, 35 accidents and 18 deaths were recorded in Portugal relating to fireworks and pyrotechnics.
The PSP stated that supervision will mainly be taking place at parties and shows “ through its department of weapons and explosives.
“PSP police recommend that all legal regulations relating to pyrotechnics and fireworks are complied with, especially relating to safe distances at launch sites”.
The launching of rockets and pyrotechnics during high risk times is prohibited, with licenses only being granted case by case.
Violations of rules are punishable by fines up to €3,000.
