A study into street commerce in Lisbon and Porto by CBRE real estate services, which will be made public soon, monitored pedestrian traffic on Avenida da Liberdade, Rua Garrett and Rua Augusta, in Lisbon, and Rua de Santa Catarina, Rua dos Clérigos and Avenida dos Aliados, in Porto.
This time it found some differences, in comparison to the last such study, carried out a decade ago. Rua de Santa Catarina, in Porto, was found to be Portugal’s busiest street, with an average of 4,200 people per hour at peak times.
It maintains leadership from 2007 and also registered a growth of 20 percent.
Lisbon’s busiest street is Rua Augusta, with an average of 3,600 people per hour, taking over from Rua Garrett, which was the country’s second busiest street in 2007, and also registered significant growth, of 45 percent.
This means Rua Garrett has now been nudged down to the third busiest street in the country, with approximately 3,100 people per hour.
