The European statistics office said the 1.3 percent seen in Portugal was greater than other countries such as Greece (1.2 percent), Ireland and Spain (with 0.9 percent each) and Estonia (0.7 percent).
The biggest falls in employment were in Finland (-0.3 percent), the UK (-0.2 percent), Bulgaria and Lithuania (-0.1 percent each).
In Portugal, the number of people in work in the second quarter was 1.9 percent higher than in the same period in 2014.
