According to the annual report from the European Union statistics office on personal transfers, as it did in 2014, Portugal recorded the second largest amount of remittances sent by expatriate workers.
In the list Portugal was followed by Poland (€3.2 billion) and the United Kingdom (€2.7 billion).
Remittances sent from Portugal to other countries in the period totalled €523 million. France recorded the biggest outflow of remittances among the EU countries (€10 billion), followed by the United Kingdom (€7.7 billion), Italy (€6.4 billion) and Spain (€6.2 billion).
On average, €11 billion in remittances came into the EU in 2015 while €31.2 billion were sent out of the EU.
