In a statement, the PSP said that, through the Sintra Police Division, a man was arrested on suspicion of the crime of domestic violence.

“The man is suspected of lying on his 19-year-old girlfriend while she slept, a flammable liquid and then set fire, causing injuries to the face and hands, seriously affecting the airways, so she was transported to Hospital São Francisco Xavier, in Lisbon”, the PSP says in the note.

In view of the severity of the injuries suffered, the woman was transferred to the burn unit at the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra.

The PSP also indicates that it intercepted the man in the vicinity of the place where the crime occurred.

The suspect "did not provide any assistance to the victim, having left the place without contacting any means of assistance", says the PSP.

The detainee will be present at the Judicial Court of Sintra for judicial interrogation and enforcement of enforcement measures.
