Developed by the aQueduto project, the research found that pupils who repeated the ninth year had worse results than those who did not. Based on findings in seven countries – Holland, Luxemburg, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Portugal and Finland – the authors of the work concluded that retaining students does not seem to contribute towards them bettering their learning.
