On the last day of June and compared to the previous month, there was an increase in the volume stored in two monitored basins (Lima and Douro), and a decrease in 10.
At the end of June, storage was higher than the storage averages in June (1990/91 to 2018/19), with the exception of the Ave, Ribeiras do Oeste, Sado, Guadiana, Mira and Barlavento basins.
According to APA data, the number of reservoirs with water availability greater than 80 percent in relation to the previous month has decreased and the number of reservoirs with availability less than 40 percent of the total volume has increased.
“Compared to June 2019, availability in June 2020 is higher in seven of the hydrographic basins and lower in the Lima, Ave, Guadiana, Sado, Mira and Barlavento basins.
In the Barlavento region, in 2020, about 60 percent of the availability that existed in 2019 is observed”, according to APA.
With regard to 2018, compared to June this year, all basins (in 2020) have lower total storage values, except the Cávado and Douro river basins.
APA points out that in Barlavento this year's availability (28.9 percent) is less than 50 percent of those available in 2018 (74.6 percent).
APA data also indicates that water availability on 23 June, stored in reservoirs in the Spanish part of the Minho and Lima river basin, was 80.8 percent (in May it was 84.9 percent), in the Douro river basin 85.7 percent (in May it was 88.5 percent), in Tejo 65.4 percent (in May it was 67.2 percent) and in Guadiana 40.2 percent (in May 42.8 percent).
“There was a decrease in the total volumes stored in all basins. The lowest values are in the Guadiana basin”, indicates the APA.
