It comes following a series of complaints about fouling in public areas, particularly in public gardens and green spaces. The local council said it would also be making extra efforts to keep streets cleaner.

Its about time that something is done about dog fouling in particular and dogs in general. Portuguese dog owners seem to think that they have a god given right to let their dogs foul and roam everywhere and bark at all times of the day and night.
I do not blame the dogs, they only do what the owners allow them to do.
A hefty annual tax on dogs might do something to curb dog excess and antisocial behaviour.

The same problem excists in Setubal. We walk in the street as pavements are littered with dog poo. Not very good for tourism...
