A report from the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), also found increases in violations due to lack of child seats (41.3 percent), non use of seat belts (38.7 percent) and lack of insurance (9.4 percent).
The report states that, between January and May, the security forces detected 27,459 vehicles without an MOT, against 14,394 detected in the same period in 2020, and 12,167 drivers talking on a mobile phone (9,284 in 2020), in addition to having registered 8,942 violations for lack of seat belts (6,448 in 2020).
ANSR also indicates that, in the first five months of the year, 8,012 offenses were detected for lack of insurance (7,326 in 2020) and 945 without restraint systems (669 in 2020).
According to the report, between January and May, 45.2 million vehicles were inspected, representing a decrease of 3.3 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
