Contacted by Lusa, a source from the Territorial Command of the GNR of Viana do Castelo, said that the alert was given at about 1:30 pm, to Rua da Videira, in that parish in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, without giving information about the origin of the explosion that "seriously injured an 11-year-old child".

To Lusa, a source for the Viana do Castelo Volunteer Firefighters said that "the child was probably playing with pyrotechnic material".

The same source added that the explosion "may have occurred in the house where the child lives".
