According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) 681 people are hospitalised with Covid-19, four more than on Tuesday, 131 of which in intensive care units, less five in the last 24 hours.

The area of ​​Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 572 new cases and the North region, with 495, have 68.1% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (6), in the North region (3), in the Centre region (2) and in the Algarve (3).

Regarding the victims' ages, five were over 80 years old, two between 70 and 79, four between 60 and 69 and three between 50 and 59 years.

Regarding the age characterisation of new confirmed cases of infection, it is in young people between 20 and 29 years (men and women) that there were more cases, with 315 more infected in the last 24 hours.

The following are the age groups between 10 and 19 years old (266 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years old (224 new cases).

Data released by the DGS also show that there are 814 fewer active cases, totalling 43,273, and that 2,365 people have been reported recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 978,462 recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,757 people have died in Portugal and 1,039,492 cases of infection have been registered.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 572 new infections, counts so far with 403,424 cases and 7,594 deaths.

In the Northern region, 495 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totallling 400,128 cases of infection and 5,512 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 205 more cases, accumulating 138,499 infections and 3,095 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 74 more cases were reported, totalling 37,331 infections and 1,006 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 168 new cases, accumulating 39,809 infections and 437 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 35 new cases, totalling 11,744 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have 16 new cases, accounting for 8,557 cases and 41 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 479,468 men and 559,285 women.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,314 were men and 8,443 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,594 were over 80 years old, 3,804 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,613 were between 60 and 69 years old.
