According to rapid air transport statistics, released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the month of May maintained the growth trend in air transport, but is still far from the figures for the same period in 2019.

The movement of cargo and mail totaled 16.2 thousand tons in May, after having been practically non-existent in May 2020.

Compared to May 2019, the movement of cargo and mail decreased by 10.6 percent.

INE points out that between 17 and 31 May, 2021, 60 percent of all passengers arriving at national airports that month, of which 25.5 percent on flights were from the United Kingdom.

The announcement of the opening of the air corridor between Portugal and the United Kingdom, on 17 May, generated a great increase in the number of passengers arriving from that day on.

Faro airport concentrated 55.4 percent of passengers from UK flights between 17 and 31 May.

In May this year, 8,600 aircraft landed on commercial flights at national airports.

Compared to May 2019, there was a 58.9 percent decrease in the number of aircraft landed.
