‘The Sacred Music festival’ has been organised by the Ideias do Levante cultural association, in partnership with the Municipality of Lagoa. This festival aims to promote Lagoa’s religious artistic heritage at multiple venues in order to raise awareness of its religious spaces, artists, instruments and works by Portuguese and foreign composers.

According to the chairman of Ideias do Levante, Roberto Estorninho, "this event will bring together not only several projects revolving around sacred music that the association has been developing since 1995, in the various religious spaces of the municipality of Lagoa, but it will also promote an exchange between institutions, researchers and historians, artists and musicians and the public."

There will be five fantastic concerts taking place throughout the month of October and four unmissable concerts throughout November. All concerts will take place at 5pm on a Sunday throughout the two months. The first being held on the 3 October as an online presentation of the festival with musical performance by Grace Borgan. Followed by in person live performances from “Renascimento e Barroco” with Jorge Félix at Igreja da Misericórdia de Lagoa on the 10th, “Da paixão à viagem” with Salomé Matias and Tiago Santos at Igreja de S. Francisco de Assis in Parchal on the 17th. Followed by “De Napoli a Leipzig | Quinteto Sull’a Corda” with Rebecca Christopherson, Daniela Dahmen-Quintas, Elisabete Martins, Bárbara Santos and Bruno Vitor at Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz in Lagoa on the 24th. The final October concert will be “Lux aeterna | Dell’Acqua” with Carla Pontes, Grace Borgan and Cristiana Silva at Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação in Porches on the 31st.

From 7 November, there will be live concerts from “O Virtuosismo e as suas facetas” with Nestor Diaz and Jeferson de Mello at Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Ferragudo, followed by “Trindade” with Michele Tomaz, Isabel Vaz Pinto and Francisco Brazão at Igreja de S. Tiago in Estômbar on the 14th. The two final concerts are “Celebracao Divina” with Rebecca Christopherson and Svetlana Martins at Capela do Convento S. José in Lagoa on the 21st and “Canticum sacrum” with Carla Pontes, Francisco Brazão and Cristiana Silva at Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação in Carvoeiro on the 28th.
