In a statement, AMN indicated that the drugs, with a total weight of 280 kilos, was detected by the crew of the submarine NRP (Portuguese Republic Ship) Tridente, approximately 46 kilometres south of Olhão.

After informing the Faro Maritime Police command of the presence of the drugs adrift at sea, a Navy rapid inspection boat and a Maritime Police vessel were activated and sent to the site.

The drugs were collected by the Tridente crew, and were later transported ashore by the Maritime Police and handed over to the Judiciary Police in the port of Faro.
