"The trend this week will be for a drop of 0.0543 euros in diesel and a drop of 0.0601 euros in 95 petrol", a source from one of the national own-brand petrol stations told Executive Digest.
At the main national gas stations, “the evolution of prices in euros points to a drop of up to 6.5 cents for diesel and 7 cents for 95 petrol”, said another source.
Data from the Directorate General of Energy and Geology (DGEG) shows that the average price of a litre of petrol in Portugal is currently 1.744 euros, while diesel is 1.585 euros. Prices may vary at different service stations, as the price set by the network also takes into account the level of competition, supply and demand in each market and the level of fixed costs at each station.
Looking back at the beginning of the year, diesel has already fallen from 1.609 to 1.585 euros/litre. In other words, filling up the tank with 60 litres of fuel has become 1.44 cents cheaper. 95 petrol has risen from 1.722 to 1.744 euros/litre, which represents an increase of 1.32 euros.
According to the latest report from the European Commission, a litre of petrol costs 9 cents more in Portugal than the European average and 22.7 cents more than in Spain – with our country occupying 8th place for the most expensive 95 petrol. In the case of diesel, Portugal comes in 9th place, with the difference compared to its neighbouring country being 14.7 cents.
