"The airport is a sensitive point of entry for people into Portugal and, instead of being seen as a threat, it should be seen as an opportunity to control the transmission chains of the virus in Portugal", said Bruno Castro, a doctor specialising in Public Health ARSLVT, at a press conference held at Humberto Delgado airport, in Lisbon.
Bruno Castro continued to explain the new rules due to the worsening epidemiological situation of Covid-19, mainly because of the new Ómicron variant, stressing that “all other procedures already in articulation will be reinforced, for this ultimate goal of not importing new transmission chains” of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
“From 00:00, all citizens will have to present a test at the time of boarding. If this test is not presented, the passenger may not board and airlines will be subject to fines. There is also a recommendation to fill in the Passenger Locator Form for faster and more efficient action by the health authorities”, he declared.
In addition to airlines, which can incur a fine of between €20,000 and €40,000 per passenger, travellers are also subject to administrative offenses for not presenting a test upon arrival, which can range from €300 to €800.

By strict reading of these rules, US residents cannot visit Portugal since they do not have a proper EU Vaccination certificate and are from a reciprocal country. The cardboard CDC cards are a bad joke - any 10-year-old could produce one.

I wonder if people still remember the sign above the entrance to the well known German camp, the vaccines did 2 or 3 injections give the receiver any freedoms promised by the Gov Wolf dressed in sheep clothes? Are injection 4 going to make anything better then number 3?

I want to make sure I understood; passengers coming from countries mentioned under "reciprocal countries" above can visit ???????? with the certification issued in those countries?
By Isaac from Other on 03 Dec 2021, 12:07
As a relative of holocaust victims I find the reference by "Magnus", commenting on your excellent article on the entry regulations (not even VACCINE regulations) in Portugal, where `Magnus" refers to "German camp signs" deeply offensive and request you REMOVE IT. To compare what my family suffered then with the polite Portuguese police and customs staff checking a test certificate is sick and depraved. I guess Magnus is really Vladimir writing from the east. Please refrain from this. Magnus: the article is NOT about vaccinations, grow up.

The most important thing not mentioned here is that entry into Portugal is only allowed for essential reasons, and strictly not for tourism.

Will UK citizens with NHS Covid 19 passport and the PCR test certificate still be allowed into Portugal? Your article implies that non EU Covid 19 Passport holders are excluded from entry.

I agree with Isaac. Not clear what is being said about countries with reciprocal arrangements. Please clarify.

Are Canadians with their negative tests and fully triple vaccinations QRCode allowed into Portugal? I appreciate the response

We're coming to Portugal in January. We are triple vaccinated with proof, but not the EU certificate. Will we still be able to travel there for the winter?

Are Canadians allowed to enter Portugal with a Canadian Vacc Cert
By Adamson Ian from Other on 03 Dec 2021, 20:39
Good old Magnus… there’s always one eh? So am I right in thinking you are comparing Portugal to Auschwitz or did I misconstrue? My confusion is regarding the Covid recover certificate. If you have one does that mean you don’t need a test before entering Portugal from the UK?
By Andrew James from Algarve on 03 Dec 2021, 21:27
You need to remove Magnus's comments comparing Portugal's vaccination programme to the Holocaust, It's deeply offensive.
By Phil Bayliss from Lisbon on 04 Dec 2021, 07:49
Dear Portugal News editor, could you please exercise a reasonable level of moderation of comments? It seems that anything goes. Are they no guidelines? The post by Magnus is not only absurd, but also dangerous and highly offensive. I can't think of any other publication that would allow the posting of such an objectionable comment. I'm confident that the majority of your readers would agree.

Portugal is doing the same like every other country. The aim is to keep the population safe from death.
5 000 000 million people have died world wide because of covid 19. Now you new variants far more contagious and deadly. This is why the authorities have to screen people coming into Portugal. It's a matter of life or death.

The "Gesundheitspass" was a document without which one could not travel without during Hltler's regime. Papirer bitte!
I appreciate the debate being kept democratically open to all sides in the comment section. I don't feel offended my different views.

Hi everyone!
I strongly suggest you to visit the official channels:
https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/covid-19-measures-implemented-portugal
European Union website for travel: https://reopen.europa.eu -
These will allow you to check these specific measures with more confidence.
Because, coming from outside of EU you won’t have an oficial EU certificate but you can get in. Also, depending on your vaccine(s) and your country certificate, it could be recognized (or not) in Portugal. Regardless all of this, you will need - for sure - to show negative test at your arrival. If not, you can do rapid test at the airport (but it’s better to be negative otherwise you will have a fine)
Go to the official channels. Ask your travel/aircraft company. To be sure.

The new variants are far more contagious than covid 19, even if you got the 2 vaccines, you can still get sick and transmit the virus to other people. It's very serious, the authorities are responsible to keep the population safe. That's why they're checking everybody to make sure there's no transmission of the variants into Portugal.

Thank you Portugal News for not caving into the requests to take down Magnus's post. Although I may not agree with it, he has a right to his opinion, even if it offends some people. I am fed up with censorship, woke, cancel culture and critical race theory that has become ubiquitous throughout western society. No one is allowed anymore to give their opinion if offends someone else. Crazy world we live in!
