“We really need to get to the level of 20 deaths per million inhabitants. There has been a downward trend and, therefore, we will wait to get there as soon as possible, so that political decisions can be taken later”, said António Lacerda Sales.
António Lacerda Sales said that, at the moment, Portugal still has 25 deaths per million inhabitants within 14 days, a value which is still higher than the threshold of 20 deaths.
The Secretary of State said that, however, “another of the goals for the end of restrictions has already been achieved”: an occupancy of less than 170 beds in intensive care units by Covid-19 patients, with “60 to 65 vacancies”.
According to António Lacerda Sales, it is necessary to “wait calmly, with serenity” to reach “these epidemiological indicators”, which are “fundamental” so that “the right political measures can be taken”.
At level zero, the use of a mask will not be mandatory, but only recommended for those who have symptoms and digital certificates will no longer be required.
So Portugal still holding on to the power of Covid! What a shame, as Portugal will not reach 20 or less deaths per million inhabitants. Before Covid in 2019, they had 28 deaths per million inhabitants. Who are they kidding? Portugal boasts about having more than 90% vaccinated people! Who are they kidding? According the Deaths per million site I visited, Portugal reported only 6.43 per million for Covid. Who are they kidding?

Thankfully, we have a government who make common sense decisions unlike the UK where daily case counts have more than doubled over the last few weeks.
