The information was released today by the Undersecretary of the Presidency, Faria e Castro, during the reading of the communiqué of the decisions of the Regional Government Council on Thursday.
In the statement from the Government Council, the authorisation “of the urban planning operations that the company Perseguir um Sonho, Unipessoal, Lda., proposes to carry out, with a view to the construction of a five-star hotel, in the parish of São Roque, municipality of Ponta Delgada, with a planned capacity of one hundred new beds”.
The authorisation, “results from the regime of precautionary measures” established by a regional legislative decree “which determined the partial suspension of POTRAA – Tourism Planning Plan of the Autonomous Region of the Azores”.
At issue is the POTRAA approved by Regional Legislative Decree no. 38/2008/A, of 11 August – “with an impact on the rules aimed at controlling the growth of the tourist accommodation offer on the island of São Miguel”.
The final report on the revision of the Tourism Management Plan for the Autonomous Region of the Azores (POTRAA) was approved on February 17 by the Government Council and will be presented to parliament in the form of a regional legislative decree.
The information was disclosed by Pedro Faria e Castro, the Regional Undersecretary of the Presidency of the Azorean executive of the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition, in statements to journalists.
The version of POTRAA currently in force dates from 2008 and has been partially suspended and subject to provisional measures since 2010.
In addition to this new hotel in the parish of São Roque, the Government Council approved, on Thursday, “a resolution authorizing the carrying out of urban planning operations that Hosteling You, Lda., proposes to carry out, with a view to expanding of the Hotel Vila Nova, in the parish of São José, municipality of Ponta Delgada”.
The “expected capacity” is 76 new beds.
