The number was updated by Minister João Costa, who did not give precise numbers and only indicated that since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Portuguese schools have already received more than 4,000 students, among the millions who fled the country.

In early March, a few days after the start of the conflict, the Ministry of Education ensured the integration of children and young people from Ukraine into Portuguese schools, defining extraordinary measures for their reception.

When they arrive at schools, students are progressively integrated into the Portuguese curriculum, starting with Portuguese Non-Mother Tongue Language classes.
