The strike, called by the National Federation of Independent Unions of Public Administration and Entities with Public Purposes (Fesinap), begins at midnight on Friday and runs until 11:59 pm, covering central, regional and local administration.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, deputy secretary general Fesinap anticipates that education, including teachers, and health, including doctors and nurses" could be the most affected sectors, "as happens recurrently".

Helder Sá prefers, however, not to anticipate adherence expectations and also remembers that "there are minimum services for hospitals", as required by law.

According to Deputy Secretary-General Fesinap, one of the reasons that led to the call for this strike relates to the statements made by the Minister of Education, in which the governor ruled out the possibility of creating a special career for non-teaching workers in schools, one of the main demands of operational assistants.

"This is causing great discomfort", he highlighted, also accusing the minister of a "lack of knowledge of what is happening in schools", when he mentioned that the government's intention is for workers who deal directly with students to be able to dedicate themselves, exclusively, to educational functions, leaving other tasks to other operational assistants.
