According to a report by Jornal de Notícias, the president of Turismo de Portugal, Luís Araújo, is encouraging agents in the North region to focus on Iberia as a strategic partner and on Madrid as an international connection airport, in instead of waiting for TAP.
“As air connectivity is an important part of this equation, work has been carried out, especially in the post-pandemic period, in order to strengthen the connections of airlines to all national airports, attract new airlines – as they ensure the connections of new markets or markets that already exist to national airports – and to collaborate in the companies' sales and distribution programs in these same markets”.
The tourist authority, supervised by the Ministry of Economy and the Sea, stressed that, without prejudice to TAP’s role as a strategic partner of Turismo de Portugal and in terms of connectivity and accessibility to Portugal, “and considering that IBERIA has recently included the destinations of Porto and Lisbon in its programme, work has been carried out to make these destinations even more attractive for passengers who make connections in Spain”.
First things, first. Nobody will want to fly into Lisbon when they read about the long delays and long lines. My sister arrived yesterday from the US. She stood in line for passport control for more than two hours. From talking to others, this is the rule, not the exception,

OMG Barry, your sister's 2 hr wait was a gift! Tap flight 10.25 hours Miami-Porto change aircraft in Lisbon, NOT TERMINALS with 1 hour transfer time. I flew on American (free) 12.25 hours same route EXCEPT it took 15 minutes to get off the moving sidewalk (a good mile, really. Then a train 15 min. to another terminal with a 1 hour at least Passport control, another train 10 min to another part of the terminal (Iberia) where there's a 3 hr layover and they won't tell you on the board what gate to go to until 55 min. before departure (people were running) and then ANOTHER security check even though we were in the airport secure area, then another 3/4 mile walking and moving sidewalk all the way close to the end Gate 73 where even the gate assistants couldn't tell me where it was, very frustrating. That airport is too fn big and I never want to go through it again! The only good thing was that the same sandwich in Miami that cost $13 US was 3.30e!
