“Last year there were about 30 detainees at this time and this year we have more than 50 detainees”, explained José Luís Carneiro.

According to the minister, this year the GNR carried out more than 4,000 awareness-raising actions relating to land clearing and the care to be taken in the forests and flagged 11,000 situations of non-compliance, while the PSP carried out 4,369 inspection and surveillance actions.

The minister also said that, so far, there has been voluntary compliance in 65% of the situations verified.
