According to INSA's weekly report on the evolution of Covid-19, the average number of daily cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus within five days dropped again from 2,527 to 2,468 nationally, being slightly lower on the continent (2,294).

This average of 2,468 daily infections is the lowest recorded during 2022, a year that began with high values ​​that reached 49,795 daily cases reported at the end of January.

As for the transmissibility index (Rt) of SARS-CoV-2, which estimates the number of secondary cases of infection resulting from each person carrying the virus, INSA data indicate that it is at 0.98 at the national level, with no significant changes compared to the previous week.

The report also mentions that four regions have this indicator above the threshold of 1, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (1.01), Alentejo (1.02), the Azores (1.10) and Madeira (1.34).

The North has an Rt of 0.97, the Centre of 0.94 and the Algarve of 0.94, according to INSA.

The institute estimates that, from March 2, 2020, when the first cases were reported, until September 9, Portugal has registered a total of 5,447,844 infections with the virus that causes Covid-19.
