An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.3 on the Richter scale was felt this afternoon on the island of São Jorge, in the Azores, according to the Information and Seismovolcanic Surveillance Center of the Azores (CIVISA).

According to CIVISA, the earthquake was recorded at 15:29 local time (16:29 in Lisbon) and had an epicentre about two kilometres from Santo Amaro, São Jorge island.
According to the information available so far, the earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III/IV on the Modified Mercalli scale in the parish of Urzelina (municipality of Velas).
